Education and Licensure: Dr. Steele earned her Psy.D in Clinical Psychology in 2012 from the California School of Professional Psychology in San Diego. She completed internships working with children, adolescents, and adults across multiple inpatient, residential, outpatient and clinic settings. She then went on to complete her postdoctoral training, treating patients with Substance Use and Co-Occurring Disorders. Dr. Steele has spent the past 10 years in healthcare leadership, managing and developing new behavioral health programs for underserved populations. She enjoys supervising practicum, intern, and postdoctoral trainees. Dr. Steele is licensed to practice psychology in California.
Specialty: Dr. Steele has more than fifteen years of professional experience and has worked with children, teens, and adults throughout her career in hospital, outpatient and private practice settings. Her specialties include psychological testing and treating a wide range of conditions including: behavioral, stress-management and emotion regulation issues with Children, as well as depression, anxiety, substance use disorders, trauma and stress-related conditions with Teens and Adults. Dr. Steele takes an integrative and individualized approach to treatment, working collaboratively with patients to cultivate a plan that adapts evidence-based practices in a solutions-focused manner to help empower the individuals and families she serves to make the changes needed to promote greater wellness and recovery. She holds certifications in Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), trauma treatments, crisis intervention, and organizational psychology approaches.
Affiliations: Dr. Steele is an active member of the American Psychological Association (APA), San Diego Psychological Association (SDPA), and the American Society of Addiction Medicine (ASAM).
Personal: Dr. Steele is “nearly” a San Diegan native, having lived in San Diego for most of her life. Her passion for mental health work was ignited at the age of 12 when she began volunteering for local community-based agencies that served individuals with mental illness. Having been a volunteer and professional for numerous community-based, non-profit, and private mental health organizations in the San Diego region, Dr. Steele is dedicated to connecting patients, family and friends with resources that foster improved mental health.
As a mother, Dr. Steele is also passionate about parenting and maternal mental health. In her “free time,” she enjoys exercising, yoga, and an occasional road trip to spend time exploring and adventuring outdoors.
