  • Dr. Stapp earned her Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from the University of Southern California in Los Angeles, CA. She completed her undergraduate degree at Duke University, where she graduated magna cum laude with a BA in Psychology, minor in Sociology, and a certificate in Cinematic Arts. She completed internship and postdoctoral fellowship at UC San Diego and UC Irvine, respectively, in the areas of inpatient and outpatient psychiatry, neuropsychology, and health psychology. She is licensed to practice psychology in California.

  • Dr. Stapp specializes in psychotherapy for individuals and couples, as well as neuropsychological evaluation to assess cognitive changes. She has thorough training in the treatment of depression, anxiety, phobia, panic disorder, PTSD, trauma, disordered eating, relationship issues, adjustment difficulties, and caregiver challenges. Dr. Stapp has extensive experience in the following modalities: Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT), Evidence-Based Treatment for Eating Disorders, and Emotion-Focused Therapy (EFT). Her treatment is chiefly guided by the principles of CBT, ACT, and EFT, but she takes an individualized approach with all clients based on their specific needs. She has extensive knowledge on dementia in older adults from her research work in Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias.

  • In her spare time, Dr. Stapp enjoys trying new restaurants with her husband, painting landscapes, following the NBA, and watching bad TV. She considers California and North Carolina both home. She is working towards an official certificate of proficiency in Spanish.
