Jacquelyn Summers, Ph.D., MPH, MSW

  • Dr. Summers graduated with highest distinction from the University of California, Berkeley while earning an interdisciplinary doctoral degree in Social Work and Public Health and a concurrent master’s degree from UC Berkeley in Public Health (1999). She matriculated summa cum laude from Florida State University while completing a master’s degree in Clinical Social Work (1989). In 1986, Dr. Summers earned a B.A. from the University of Virginia with honors as a “Lawn Resident”.

    Dr. Summers held an academic faculty appointment in the Department of Psychology at the University of Auckland, New Zealand from 1999-2008 where she was awarded tenure in Clinical Psychology (2002). She also held research posts with UC Berkeley’s Institute of Mental Health Services Research (1996-1999) and UCSD’s Department of Psychiatry (1989-1995).

  • Dr. Summers aims to partner with individuals, couples, and families to provide high quality, compassionate care rooted in positive psychology. Respect and trust are cornerstones to her practice. She believes in collaborative care and a team-based approach. She has a subspecialty in epidemiology and prevention best practices.

    Dr. Summers has expertise in military health after being embedded with our Navy SEALS and EOD operators for almost eight years. At Naval Special Warfare, she supported readiness and warrior-family health using evidence-based strategies in partnerships with Booz Allen Hamilton Defense Intelligence Group, UCLA Psychiatry, and KBR Wyle.

  • Dr. Summers is a member of the American Psychological Association (APA) and National Association of Social Workers (NASW).

  • Dr. Summers is a multi-national resident of the United States, New Zealand, Panama, Spain, and Japan. She is the mother of two kiwi-Americans. She comes from a military family with three generations of service. She enjoys all animals, as well as sports such as swimming, yoga, and tennis.
